The 'kawat’si Economic Development General Partner Corporation (KEDC) was created in 2014 to capitalize on a strong desire by the Gwa’sala ‘Nakwaxda’xw community to grow opportunities. KEDC’s mandate is to investigate and realize revenue, prosperity, skills and development to the community. I made a series of promotional films for KEDC back in 2015

Pier Side Landing
KEDC purchased the former Seagate Hotel on Port Hardy’s downtown waterfront. 'kawat’si Construction Company completed the renovations in January 2016. The 55-room property, operating as Pier Side Landing Hotel, is now open and welcoming visitors.
KEDC SHELLFISH
In 2015, KEDC launched an aquaculture pilot project focusing on scallops and oysters offshore in the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw traditional territory. The project provides both a sustainable economic development opportunity for the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations and a potential livelihood for community members wishing to live semi-independently in our traditional homelands.
GNN Marine Services
GNN Marine Services supports companies that work in the traditional territories of Smith and Seymour Inlets and beyond, by providing navigation by customized watercraft to and from remote sites, specific to client needs and schedules.
KEDC COLD STORAGE
Our new cold storage facility serves the growing need on the North Island. Built by the 'kawat’si Construction Company and located at the Old Mall site on Trustee Road, the facility has more than 2 million pounds of cold storage capacity. This capacity serves the growing needs of the local fishing community and the influx of sport fishers during the busy summer months
KEDC REMOTE CAMPS
Remote barge camps, Raven Call and Bear Den can be moved to suit your needs and rented out for many different purposes: family retreats, camping, classes, writing workshops, logging camps, silviculture camps or whatever suits you. They can be rented together or separately.

kwa'lilas Hotel
KEDC has renovated the property formerly known as the Port Hardy Inn, now called the Kwa’lilas Hotel. It is the region’s premier First Nations owned, operated and themed destination hotel, offering high-end amenities and services for North Island visitors and residents.

KEDC forestry
GwaNak Resources is a Gwa’sala -’Nakwaxda’xw -owned company that holds and manages all forestry licenses owned by the Nation.
Employing community members with intimate knowledge of the region, including certified arborists, GwaNak provides remote camp services, engineering planning , guidance, road planning, development and sustainable resource management.

The 'kawat’si Construction Company is a Gwa’sala -’Nakwaxda’xw owned company that employs community members, red seal certified journeyman carpenters and labourers who specialize in wood and steel frame building construction and renovation.
